summer course – 5 days

This Summer Course taught by Richard Paton is for those who have done some glass work previously and would like to learn new techniques.

Day 1 & 2: Glass fusing is a fast developing area and there are many new and exciting ways to get great effects in glass. Richard has experience using fused glass on a large scale and in many architectural spaces and is a good source of knowledge if you’re considering embarking on such projects in the future. Some of the new techniques will include kiln casting methods, mould making, tack fusing at various temperatures, various inclusions, bubble making, frit making and application using various methods.

Day 3: Screen printing photographs & using decals from a printer

Day 4: Sandblasting, engraving & etching cream

Day 5: Gilding, verre eglomise – the application of leaf onto glass

This class has flexibility to develop your own project throughout the week using the new techniques.

The format will be that all the teaching of new methods will happen in the morning and then you practise them for the rest of the day to make individual items and where possible work them into previous results to develop a project.

There is a limit of 7 people per course enabling faster learning.

The advantage of a small class is that you can experiment with many different effects and have an experienced adviser on hand at each stage.

Lessons are taught by Richard Paton with over 20 years experience who will also give tips and tricks of the trade.

This class is also suitable for a beginner with no glass experience as the fundamentals of all the techniques will be fortified during the course.

Price = £550 for the week, materials included (10:00am – 4:30pm).

See the calendar for upcoming class dates.
